Election 2017 / Robbie McGregor

Robbie McGregor
Candidate Name Robbie McGregor
Electoral Ward Shetland South
Description (if any) Scottish National Party (SNP)

I worked in Edinburgh for many years as a pharmacist with a local company and I remain a director of the company. I served for many years on various health boards’ committees and on national pharmacy committees before moving to Shetland three years ago.

I have been an activist in the SNP all my adult life and was the late Danus Skene’s election agent for the last two elections. In view of my SNP profile I would find it difficult to stand as an independent and see it as a matter of integrity that I stand under my party banner.

I help as a volunteer at Quarff Hall, I serve on the Gulberwick, Quarff and Cunningsburgh Community Council and have learned much about what concerns people in the area.

I am married to my wife Mary originally from Cunningsburgh.

I am passionate about Shetland and believe this is the best place in the world to live.

Why am I standing for the council?

I believe I have a set of skills which will be useful to the council having a lifetime of experience in business, politics and the health service.

What will I campaign for?

It is difficult to make deliverable promises because of the non party make up of the council so I can only undertake to campaign for the following items:

  1. A 50 mph speed limit on the main road south through Quarff
  2. Democracy in Shetland Charitable Trust
  3. Openness in the council
  4. Fixed inter island links
  5. Support for care services
  6. Ensure that the best use is made of available finances

I am a very good listener and happy to discuss any item of concern with anyone and I undertake to work for the benefit of all constituents regardless of their political views and hopefully we can make a difference to all Shetlanders.

It is the biggest privilege of my life to represent all the people of Shetland South as a SNP councillor. I can only promise that I will carry out my duties to the very best of my ability.
