News / Gymnasts’ Inverurie success
SHETLAND Gymnastics Club enjoyed a successful weekend at the North District floor and vault competition in Inverurie.
The club was represented by a total of 22 competitors across three different age groups at the Garioch Sports Centre event on Saturday.
The Shetland team scooped a number of medals in the 12+ age group, with Lily Rendall winning the overall gold medal and shield, while Lily Roberts picked up silver and Phoebe Lyth won bronze.
Shetland also won the team gold (Lily Roberts, Lily Rendall, Alanna Leask, Phoebe Lyth and Courtney Young) and team bronze (Ellie Bisset, Kirstin Grant, Zsofia Kiszely, Olivia Waldie and Sara McLeod).
In the 8-9 age group, all four isles entrants improved on their scores from their first competition in Shetland, with Katie Hunter finishing 15th in the vault section and Anya Nicol coming 15th in the floor category.
Eva Smith missed out on an overall medal by just 0.4 points in the 10-11 age group, despite securing the bronze in the floor section, and Kali Thomson was seventh on floor, ninth on vault and eighth overall.
Shetland Gymnastics head coach Julie Grant commented: “The girls did the club, coaches, parents and themselves proud and the coaches would like to thank them for their behaviour the whole weekend which was brilliant.
“The club would also like to thank Northlink Ferries for their amazing hospitality the whole weekend. They went above and beyond and we really appreciate it.”
