A NUMBER of consultations will be held in Shetland next week to gather the public’s thoughts on how best to replace three underwater electricity cables that connect Yell and Unst to the mainland.
The cables are approaching the end of their lifespan and Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SHEPD) want to receive views from the public and statutory bodies on the best value method of replacing them.
Those attending the events will be given details of the cables and the ways they could be replaced.
Work on installing new cables is expected to get underway next summer.
The first consultation will take place at Yell’s Cullivoe Hall on 16 August between 6pm and 10pm.
The next day the public are invited attend the Lerwick Power Station between 10am and 4pm, while the Mossbank Hall will also hold an event that evening between 6pm and 10pm.
The final consultation will take place at Unst’s Baltasound Hall on 18 August between 10am and 1pm.
