News / Assault cost Glasgow man dear
ASSAULTING another man outside a Lerwick pub and failing to appear for a court hearing cost a man from Glasgow a total of £700.
Jamie Thomas, of 17 Waukmill Avenue, Barrhead, appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday to admit pushing a man to the ground and repeatedly kicking him on the body on 19 April 2014 at the town’s Merran Moad steps.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie told the court that the victim went outside the pub to get away from a quarrel inside.
Twenty eight year old Thomas and another man followed him out before attacking the victim.
He “curled up into the foetal position” as kicks rained in on his body, Mackenzie said.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said a lot of drink was involved and that his client didn’t know the complainer.
The groundworker lost his job as a direct result of the offence, he added, but had recently secured work in Northern Ireland.
Honorary sheriff Willie Shannon fined Thomas £550 for the assault in addition to £150 for failing to appear at a previous hearing on 8 July last year while on bail.
