News / Yell based company creates nine new jobs
A YELL based salmon farming support business is doubling its workforce after acquiring a second wellboat.
North Isles Marine Ltd confirmed on Monday that nine new local jobs have been created as a result of the seven-figure investment, financed with the help of the Clydesdale Bank.
The company has bought the 40 metre long Ronja Settler, which has been operating in Shetland waters since 2002.
North Isles Marine started out in September 2008 with the much smaller wellboat Norholm.
Director Marianne Clark, said the Ronja Settler would continue harvesting salmon for Scottish Sea Farms.
Wellboats contain large vats of water that enable fish to remain live up until the point of processing, maximising quality and freshness.
Clark said the company’s wellboats were operated by two crews of four. An additional office job has also been created.
“Acquiring the Ronja Settler is a big step forward for us. The vessel has double the capacity of our original wellboat, the Norholm, and has enabled us to undertake a new exclusive contract with Scottish Sea Farms and double our workforce.
“As a rural, island-based business, we’re extremely pleased that we are creating new jobs,” she said.
