News / Engineers unite

MECHANICAL engineers in Shetland are getting together later this month to form a branch of the world’s fastest growing professional engineering institutions.

A public meeting at Lerwick’s Islesburgh Community Centre on Wednesday 26 August at 7.30pm will see the inaugural gathering of a Shetland members group of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

The meeting will look at how a Shetland members group can support professional development and the promotion of mechanical engineering in the isles.

IMechE Scotland business development manager Sandra Mulligan will be at the meeting to outline routes to professional registration for both technicians and engineers.

There will also be a question and answer session and a discussion about forming a local group.
