Letters / Propagandistic drivel
I note Bill Adam’s silly comments with regard to John Tulloch’s letter congratulating Shetland athletes on their outstanding performance at the 2015 Island Games in Jersey (Punching well above our weight; SN, 13/07/15).
I too give my congratulations to all participants, both the winners and brave losers. Truly the ‘Esprit de corps’ and enthusiasm of all concerned speaks volumes about Shetland folk.
I also note Bill Adams offers no such congratulations at all but embarks on his usual nasty little SNP promotional put downs and propagandistic drivel.
I also note his comments: “One other factor in Shetland’s favour is that many of our top competitors benefit in getting a competitive edge while at university in having access to facilities and coaches on the Scottish mainland, which is not dependent on autonomous status or the lack thereof.”
I would like to point out these athletes also have unfettered access to all United Kingdom universities, facilities and sports coaches. So of course does all the UK autonomous Crown dependent islands, something all Shetland and Scottish athletes would have lost forever if Scotland had become independent.
As a final note I would comment on The Nationalists’ treatment of Sir Chris Hoy, arguably Scotland’s greatest recent athlete.
Nationalists have accused Sir Chris Hoy of being a “traitor” to his country in a vitriolic barrage of internet abuse directed at the Olympic hero for warning that independence could harm Scottish sport.
I must just wonder which SNP official troll posted this, sadly so very typical of this divisive and unpleasant group.
