News / Bergen flights
LOGANAIR’S chief operating officer has promised to look again at increasing the number flights between Sumburgh and Bergen next year.
Philip Preston told Wednesday’s meeting of the Shetland external transport forum the Bergen service had been cut back to one flight a week last year so that an extra run could be added between Shetland and Aberdeen to meet demand.
Shetland Central councillor David Sandison made a personal plea to Preston to put on at least one extra flight to coincide with Norway’s National Day on 17 May, which next year will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two.
He said that recently there had been “a fairly significant upsurge” in links between Scalloway and Norway because of new friendship agreements that have been signed and since the Scalloway Museum had opened with its extensive displays on the Shetland Bus.
Preston said that the service was always under review, but that last year there had been a downturn in the number of groups using the service.
However he promised to look into the issue and see what resources the airline had available to increase the service again.
