News / Search called off after woman traced
A MAJOR search for a missing woman in Shetland involving the police and the coastguard was stood down after three hours when she was found safe and well.
The alarm was raised at around 2.30pm on Thursday after a local woman in her 30s was reported to the police as having gone missing.
The police contacted Shetland coastguard after half an hour and search teams in the north, south, east and west of the islands were called out to assist.
A coastguard spokesman said that teams from Lerwick, Sumburgh, Hillswick and Walls were all involved in the incident.
The police said that the woman was traced safe and well in Lerwick shortly after 5.30pm and the coastguard teams were stood down soon afterwards.
