Letters / Tilting at (giant) windmills
As we take in the SIC financial director’s latest report and see how £325 million over and above council income was spent from reserves since 2003, we can reflect at where and why no action took place.
A major factor, in my opinion, as to why there was no drawing in of horns was undoubtedly the oft repeated mantra, particularly since 2007, that the Viking Energy wind farm was on its way and would cure all our economic ills.
We have now spent far too much time ’tilting at (giant) windmills’.
There were poor decisions and a lack of action as misplaced assurance was extracted from this repeated mantra.
If we want to look at all the elements affecting the council’s balance sheet over the last ten years we must recognise that this ill-judged proposal certainly played its part.
