Letters / At a loose end

It was only a matter of time before the unionists started to muddy the water over the referendum on independence for Scotland.

Tavish’s cry “It’s Shetland’s Oil” is not on offer from the Better Together side, the Liberal Democrats, Tavish or Yes Scotland, so why does the failed ex-leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats raise it as an issue?

He is obviously at a loose end; this Edinburgh resident recently was offering his opinions on SIC local government issues.

It sounds like Shetland Movement policies making a comeback via our MSP, a bit strange given the efforts of the Liberals to destroy the Shetland Movement.

If Tavish is unclear on Liberal Democrat policy then he ought to check with his Liberal/Tory allies in the coalition government in London.

And that is the point about the referendum: decisions about matters in Scotland should be made in Scotland by politicians elected by and answerable only to voters in Scotland.

Yes Shetland will be meeting on Friday night in the Islesburgh at 7.30pm to discuss these and other issues, all are welcome.
