News / Mascot to help launch sports week
CLYDE, the official mascot of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, will be in the isles this weekend to help launch Shetland Sports Week.
More than 100 activities and sport sessions are being held in sports facilities right across Shetland between Saturday 29 September and Sunday 7 October.
The thistle mascot will cheer on all budding sport stars of the future during the opening ceremony on Saturday, starting at 11am in the main hall of the Clickimin Leisure Centre.
The sports week is part of the build up to the Glasgow games in two years time, and also gives the islands an opportunity to demonstrate why they were given the accolade of European Community of Sport 2013.
