News / Excessive drinking keeps police busy
POLICE in Shetland have called on islanders to reduce their alcohol consumption after one man was charged with assault and another with drink driving over the weekend.
A 30 year old was arrested and charged with assault in the early hours of Saturday following a disturbance in Lerwick town centre.
On Sunday evening, a 50 year old man was arrested in Lerwick for driving while being under the influence of alcohol after police received a tip-off from a member of the public.
A spokesman said: “Both these incidents were fuelled by excessive use of alcohol and Shetland police would like to urge the public to drink sensibly and responsibly.”
Reports are being sent to the procurator fiscal.
