Bull scheme extension

DUE to the adverse weather conditions over the last few weeks the Crofters Commission said it realised many groups have not had an opportunity to arrange meetings to finalise their applications for the Cattle Improvement Scheme.

In order to give folk an opportunity to submit their applications, the scheme will remain open until the 31 January 2011. Applications received after that date will be considered at the discretion of the farm manager.

Lerwick theft

POLICE have asked for information about the theft of money from a house in Lerwick’s Hoofields between 6pm and 10pm on Saturday. Any information can be passed on to 01595 692110.

Rural projects

PEOPLE involved in community projects throughout Scotland are being invited to share ideas and learn from other rural groups at a series of events in March and April.

The Scottish National Rural Network wants to help organisations involved in similar projects to share their experiences in renewable energy, tourism, food and drink, village halls and community buildings and community enterprise.

All the sessions are on the Scottish mainland and places are limited so anyone interested should complete an online application by 6 February.

All the details are available at http://www.ruralgateway.org.uk/en/rural-development/regional-events or by contacting Matt Tyrer at matt.tyrer@scvo.org.uk or on 01463 251 727.

Shetland News is asking its many readers to consider start paying for their dose of the latest local news delivered straight to their PC, tablet or mobile phone.

Journalism comes at a price and because that price is not being paid in today’s rapidly changing media world, most publishers - national and local - struggle financially despite very healthy audience figures.

Most online publishers have started charging for access to their websites, others have chosen a different route. Shetland News currently has  over 600 supporters  who are all making small voluntary financial contributions. All funds go towards covering our cost and improving the service further.

Your contribution will ensure Shetland News can: -

  • Bring you the headlines as they happen;
  • Stay editorially independent;
  • Give a voice to the community;
  • Grow site traffic further;
