HIAL says flight schedules impacted by air traffic control issue

SUMBURGH Airport operator HIAL is reporting disruption across its network due to an air traffic control technical issue which affected flights across the country.

The problem related to a National Air Traffic Services (NATS) issue at its Prestwick centre.

In an update released shortly after 11am, a HIAL spokesperson confirmed that the technical issue is now resolved.

“Some disruption may continue and passengers should check with their airline for the latest flight updates,” they added.

There have been some short delays to flights to and from Sumburgh this morning (Monday).

However Loganair has cancelled a number of flights elsewhere in Scotland, including some services to Islay, Tiree and Kirkwall.

NATS said airports south of Manchester are “broadly unaffected” but flights heading north and those departing Scottish airports may be subject to delays.

It added that “to maintain safety, air traffic regulations have been applied to manage traffic demand”.
