HIAL says flight schedules impacted by air traffic control issue

SUMBURGH Airport operator HIAL is reporting disruption across its network due to an air traffic control technical issue which has affected flights across the country.

The problem relates to a National Air Traffic Services (NATS) issue at its Prestwick centre.

A HIAL spokesperson said: “Due to a technical issue, flight schedules are impacted across all our airports.

“Passengers should contact airlines for the latest travel updates.”

There have been some short delays to flights to and from Sumburgh this morning (Monday).

However Loganair has cancelled a number of flights elsewhere in Scotland, including some services to Islay, Tiree and Kirkwall.

NATS said airports south of Manchester are “broadly unaffected” but flights heading north and those departing Scottish airports may be subject to delays.

It added that “to maintain safety, air traffic regulations have been applied to manage traffic demand”.
