THIS YEAR’s Rising North music festival promises to be bigger and better than ever – and tickets are going on sale from tomorrow (Thursday).

This year’s festival will be headlined by visiting acts Ash and Pale Waves, with a supporting cast of Shetland’s top talent including First Foot Soldiers, The Revellers and The Plonkys and many more.

The main event will take place at the Clickimin in Lerwick at night on Friday 14 August and from daytime to late on Saturday 15 August.

Tickets will go on sale first in person at Mareel on Thursday 16 April between 6pm and 10pm. After that the remaining tickets will go online at 6pm on Friday 17 April, with the link to be shared on the Rising North social media accounts.

They will be priced at £50 per night. The evening events are for ages 18+ only.

Purchases in person and online are limited to four per event/per purchase.

There are no ticket limits for the family-friendly, all-ages daytime event at the Clickimin on the Saturday.

Tickets for the daytime will range from £5 for ages 5-11, £10 for ages 12-15 and £15 for 16+. Anyone aged under five will be given free entry.

The organisers, a committee of local musicians, said they have made some “important changes” to the festival following feedback from last year.

There also stands to be afterparty events after the two Clickimin nights, as well as gigs on in pubs on the Thursday and a close-down session on Sunday, with more information on these to come in during course.

Who is on the line-up at the Clickimin?

The Friday night will be headlined by English rock act Pale Waves, who have racked up three top ten albums in the UK so far, and have played at festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and Lollapalooza.

Their sound has been described as a mix of rock, pop, indie and goth – and highlighting their versatility, they are currently supporting former One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson on his European arena tour.

Also playing the Friday night at the Clickimin will be local trio Dirty Lemons, who inject plenty of energy into upbeat rock songs – including their own anthem Human Barbie.

Popular four-piece The Plonkys will also be hitting the stage that night, with the band garnering a strong following in the isles over recent years with a set of crowd-pleasing covers plus some of their own tunes too.

For something a bit heavier, Essy Kert will perform on the Friday night, bringing some grunge-infused metal to the Clickimin.

Opening the Friday night will be indie covers band The Poppadom Kings, who will take the audience back to the Britpop era.

The Saturday night will see Northern Irish rock trio Ash headline. Fronted by Tim Wheeler, the band have scooped two UK No.1 albums over the years and are known for singles like Girl From Mars and Shining Light.

Having played across the globe, the band also ended up headlining a night at the iconic Glastonbury Festival in 1997.

The Saturday evening will see seven-piece folk rockers The Revellers return to the Clickimin stage as they continue to plug their new album Reactors.

Another act who are no strangers to playing the Clickimin, First Foot Soldiers will try their best to whittle down their extensive human-jukebox set of covers for a no doubt highly anticipated set.

One of Shetland’s newer acts Black 8s will also perform on the Friday night, although their heavy-blues-groove sound harks back to vocalist and fiddler Tim Matthew’s old band Mystery Juice.

The final act on the Friday night bill is Orkney thrash metal heavyweights Chugg, who say they have been “riffin’ like maniacs since 2007”.

The Clickimin is also open on the Saturday afternoon, offering gig-goers of all ages a chance to enjoy a day of live music across both the main stage and the bowls hall.

On the line-up is veteran rockers No Sweat, while Ten Tonne Dozer will give metalheads something to shout about.

Marackled are also on the bill, known for their varied covers of everything from Rage Against The Machine to Uptown Funk, as are Status Quo devotees Quorum.

Young covers act Distinctly Mediocre will prove they are anything but with their daytime set, while multi-pronged Yell act Rack & Ruin will help to get the party started.

Highland indie band Katanes will be making their first trip north to Shetland to play the daytime event, while original genre-bending local act Big Time Quell are making a surprise return following their main stage slot at the Tall Ships in 2023.

Completing the daytime line-up are young band Joking Aside whose heady mix of rock covers has graced many a stage in the last couple of years.
