Letters / Complete disregard to local business
I was dumbfounded to see the comments made by Lerwick South councillor John Fraser during a council meeting earlier this week.
During a debate surrounding the Brae hockey pitch and its potential repurposing, councillor Fraser made a questionable response regarding local businesses.
When the topic was raised on the impact moving the hockey pitch to Lerwick and away from the North Mainland could have on local businesses, councillor Fraser’s response was stating that the project’s future should not be defined by the impact on local businesses.
This is where councillor Fraser is completely wrong; every decision made by the council should have its merit weighted on how it may affect the population, both individuals and businesses alike.
Having a hockey pitch located in the North Mainland brings much needed traffic to our villages, Brae in particular, as it is home to the hockey pitch in question.
To show a complete disregard to local business and economy is unbecoming of any public representative and makes me wonder whether councillor Fraser would show the same disregard to the employers of constituents in his own ward.
