Community / Delight as Post Office reopens in Burravoe
THE BURRAVOE Post Office has re-opened at its new location in Brough Store.
It restores Post Office services to the community at the southern end of Yell after the closure of the previous branch in July 2025 following the retirement of the postmistress, who ran it from her home.
The news caused concern in the community, especially over a lack of public consultation, with Post Office Ltd seemingly performing a U-turn over plans to replace it.
The Brough Store opened in June 2025 after a big renovation of the premises which had been Brough Stores until it closed in the 1990s.
The new owners then successfully applied to take on Burravoe Post Office.
Post Office area change manager Ian Murphy, said: “We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we are delighted to have restored service in Burravoe.”
The same products and services will still be available at Brough Stores, including the ability for folk to deposit cash and cheques, to withdraw cash and check their account balance.
People can also send and return parcels, pay bills and get Post Office travel money cards and top-ups.
The Burravoe post office will be open 45 hours per week, from 9am-12.30pm and from 1.30-5.30pm from Monday to Saturday.
The new branch is located approximately 500 metres from the previous branch.
