ANDERSON High School’s netball team are through to the final of the Scottish Schools Cup after a nail-biting win over Strathallan.

The AHS team overcame their mainland opponents in a 35-31 victory after an end-to-end encounter to earn their place in the final.

Ella Johnson was named the player of the match from her team-mates, while Erin Spence and Shannon Hough earned the plaudits from their coaches.


THE SHETLAND men’s hockey team are through to the semi-finals of the Scottish Reserve Cup after a victory on penalty flicks over the weekend.

The side travelled down Aberdeen on Saturday to take on Grange for a place in the last four, with the game ending goalless after four quarters of hockey.

However the blues held their nerve to win 3-2 after penalty flicks, with Reece Thorn, Joshua MacColl and Murray Sinclair scoring to send them through.


SHETLAND Swimming Association hosted the A9 Shetland sprint championships on Sunday at Clickimin, with nearly 130 swimmers taking part.

Events swum were all strokes over 25m or 50m depending on age, a 100m individual medley for 11 years and over and finally mixed relays.

Swimmers from Delting Dolphins (DD), Lerwick (LK), Shetland Hurricanes (SH), South Mainland (SM) and Westside Sharks (WS) were involved, with great performances over the sessions.

The distance award trophies were also presented to those who swam the fastest accredited times for events 200m and over during 2025. These were:

Caoilinn Robinson (LK) (200m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m freestyle)

THE SENIOR men’s football season has returned with a glut of goals on the new North Loch Pitch in Lerwick.

Holders Whitedale started their defence of the Highland Fuels Cup with an 8-1 win over Thistle, before Ness saw off Spurs 4-1.

On Friday night there was a 2-1 win for Celtic over Whalsay, before Thistle recovered from their chastening earlier defeat to thrash Scalloway 5-1.

The competition is split into two groups this time around, with Scalloway and Thistle now meeting again tonight (Monday) before Whalsay face Spurs on Wednesday.

Ness play Celtic at 6pm on Friday, before Whitedale take on Scalloway.

The Championship league cup also got under way on Sunday night, with a big 5-1 win for Westside Rebels over new side Boca Seniors.

The straight knockout competition will now see Rebels meet Ness C on Saturday at 6pm for a place in the last four, before holders Bressay play the league’s other new team, Rusty Spoons, at 8pm.

Banks play North Isles and Southside Impact face Delting B in the competition’s other quarter-final ties, with the semi-finals set to be played a week later.
