Letters / Hannah Mary perfectly suited to fighting for Shetland
Still the same as far as I see it – a vote for Alex, is a vote for Emma.
Scottish Greens are devoted and even to some degree admirable, but gimmickry and whataboutery will never put food on the table or pay the bills.
They may well get us a better bus service, improved recycling and a safer place for drug users to use drugs.
For a London public school boy coming north, Alex has done very well at integrating himself into the community, and as a doctor and a council member he is making a difference where it is really needed.
It will be a great shame if he leaves to pursue a political career when he fills such important roles so well here.
Hannah Mary is not a doctor, the life and the experience she has is perfectly suited to fighting for Shetland in the Scottish Parliament. She has the history, she has the experience, she has the connection, she is perfectly suited to the role and Shetland is and will always be ‘her’ home, the place she will strive for.
To see two very capable individuals put into a situation of competition is saddening, when cooperation, as was planned at first, is clearly the better way ahead for both.
There is a real possibility that competition between the Greens and the SNP could let the Lib Dem’s back in. There is still time to do the best thing, and support the best way forward for everyone. I hope we get there, soon.
