HOT GECKOS have continued their flawless indoor volleyball campaign with a seventh win from seven.

In Thursday’s first match Rexel saw off Diggers 2-1. They got off to a fast start, racing into an 11-3 lead in the first set.

Diggers were able to fight back to 19-10 but Rexel continued to power through the set, closing it out 25–15.

With Diggers 4-3 down at the beginning of set two, they called a timeout to try and calm things down, but sound found themselves having to call a second timeout when they trailed 21-11.

It was not enough to prevent Rexel from winning the set 25-11 and ensuring victory.

However Diggers were determined to ensure they were not whitewashed, and despite falling 10-5 behind some good play from Thomas Clark allowed them to move 12-10 ahead.

Young Luke Bennett for Diggers managed to bring them within a point of Rexel, and soon it was level at 17-17.

Good play from Ellie Nicolson, Ava Sim and Wayne Leask allowed Geckos to draw level and eventually overturn the deficit to win the first set 25-20.

Set two was tightly contested and as it neared its end the two teams were locked at 19-19.

In the final exchanges Venture held their nerve, and Luke Bennett secured the winning point to take the set 25–22 and level the game.

The deciding set was another close battle. Geckos maintained a slender advantage, but Venture responded through strong serving from Juergen Kurtz before Finlay Kirkness levelled the score late on.

At 22–22 the match hung in the balance, but Geckos produced the final surge needed to seal the set 25–22 and take the win.
