NORTHERN Irish rock band Ash have been announced as the first headliner for next year’s Rising North music festival.

They will play the Clickimin in Lerwick on Saturday 15 August.

The band rose to fame with their debut album 1977, which was released in 1996.

Propelled by singles such as Girl From Mars, Kung Fu and Goldfinger, the record reached No.1 in the UK.

Their 2001 album Free All Angels also topped the UK chart.

Ash – who feature Tim Wheeler, Mark Hamilton and Rick McMurray – released their ninth album Ad Astra in October.

Having played across the globe, the band also headlined a night at the iconic Glastonbury Festival in 1997 after Steve Winwood was unable to make it.

Rising North organisers said Ash have “cemented their status as one of the UK’s most enduring and vibrant live rock acts”.

The 2026 Rising North music festival – the third to date – will be held in Lerwick from 13 to 16 August, with the main events again due to take at the Clickimin. Ticket details are set to follow in due course.

The 2025 festival was the first to feature visiting headliners, with Callum Beattie and High Fade topping the line-up.
