Connectivity / Damaged cable not to be repaired before Tuesday
THE REPAIR of the damaged SHEFA-2 subsea cable to re-connect many Shetlanders’ broadband services has been delayed until Tuesday.
In an update from Faroese Telecom this afternoon the company said that due to the poor weather conditions the main repair operation had to be postponed.
Services for Vodafone, Sky and Talk Talk customers have been off since 3 October, while service providers with more resilience in their set-up such as BT and Shetland Telecom, have not been affected by the outage,
Most of the preparatory work has been completed and the cable repair ship Cable Vigilance is standing by off Orkney, the company said.
Depending on weather and sea conditions full restoration of the cable connection is now expected for Tuesday evening.
