Energy / SSEN consultation event called off following flight disruption
SSEN Transmission says it is having to reschedule a consultation event due to take place in Voe today (Monday) due to the cancellation of flights at Sumburgh Airport.
It was due to be the first of a series of consultation events scheduled to take place in Shetland, that will share proposals for new energy transmission infrastructure.
The Voe event today – where plans were due to be shared for a Kergord 2 substation, including routing options between the existing substation and the new site – will be rescheduled to a future date.
The remaining events will still go ahead:
- Tuesday 7 October 2025 – 3pm-7pm, Mossbank Public Hall – Yell Connections – Marine
- Wednesday 8 October 2025 – 2.45pm-6.45pm, Burravoe Public Hall, Yell – Yell substations and connections
- Thursday 9 October 2025 – 3pm-7pm, Brae Community Hall – Northern Substation Hub and Shetland HVDC 2 Link including landfalls, connection between Northern Hub and existing Kergord substation
- Tuesday 4 November – 3pm-7pm, Mossbank Public Hall – Shetland HVDC 2 link – marine
Flights were cancelled on Sunday and this morning at Sumburgh Airport following telecommunications issues, said to be caused by damaged cable.
However, the issue is now resolved, according to airport operator HIAL.
