A TURBINE blade was seen making its way north to the Viking Energy wind farm site today (Friday).

SSE Renewables said that the blade was being delivered to the site “to fulfil ongoing operational maintenance activities” at the wind farm, following a question from Shetland News.

The company added that the delivery was conducted by a specialist contractor, and under police escort.

The energy giant did not respond to a question about whether the blade was replacing one that had been damaged.

It comes weeks after turbine blades could be seen arriving into Lerwick on the Baltic Wave cargo boat.

A Viking turbine blade suffered damage in October last year, with SSEN saying back in March that it was due to be replaced.
