SHETLAND Netball has hosted an array of coaching, umpire courses and workshops over the last week.
In its biggest education event to date, the association welcomed Netball Scotland coach tutor Leighanne Carracher back to the isles.
She ran court specific sessions for shooters, mid-court and defence for juniordistrict and senior players, which were well attended and saw players trying out new drills.
On Saturday a C Umpire Course was run at Clickimin, with 25 folk attending.
This course was led by Netball Scotland tutor Kim Gilgour and local tutor LouiseMoar, with Beth Mouat shadowing as part of her training to become their second qualified umpire tutor on island.
The participants had completed an online theory session earlier in the week before taking part in the practical day on Saturday.
And on Sunday a vision, position and timing umpire workshop led by Gilgour took place at the Scalloway Games Hall.
The lead coach award course also took place on Sunday at Clickimin, with 16folk attending the seven-hour course.
Participants had completed three online theory sessions in the weeks leading up to the practical day, and following the courses umpires will now need to log 10 umpiring hours and sit an online theory assessment before completing a practical assessment.
Shetland Netball gave its thanks to Netball Scotland and its tutors and Shetland Netball development manager Vicki Smith for her hard work to make the education events such a success.
VALKYRIES made it two wins from their first two league games as they go in pursuit of another league title.
The women’s rugby team comprehensively beat Inverness Craig Dunain 75-33 over the weekend, which puts them joint top with Aberdeenshire Quines at this early stage.
Lavinia Schmidt was named forward of the match, while Natalie Timberlake was the back of the match.

Hannah Polson was picked out by Inverness as player of the match for Shetland.
The side travel to face Lochaber this weekend.
STUART Copland was on the scoresheet for mainland side Golspie Sutherland in their 3-2 victory over Halkirk United on Saturday.
Copland and keeper Henry Oldbury were the Shetland contingent in Golspie’s line-up at the weekend, with Oldbury captaining the team, and the pair helped the team to a crucial early season victory.
The win means Golspie have two wins from three in the North Caledonian football league, and they host second placed Inverness Thistle this weekend.
HOT GECKOS made it two wins from two at the start of the mixed indoor volleyball league with a 2-1 win over Rexel last week.
They made a strong start to set one through some powerful serves by Keira Tulloch, with Rexel struggling to pick up balls in the mid-court.
Rexel did their best to make the Hot Geckos work hard for every point, but Geckos closed out the first set to win 25-9.
Determined to prove themselves, Rexel came out strong into the second set developing an early 5-2 lead.
A loose high ball at the net was thundered down by Wayne Leask for Hot Geckos, bringing them back into the game at 9-9.
Rexel then moved into the lead and, despite some strong hits from Hot Geckos, some beautifully placed short serves by Jill Hibbert made it 23-15.
Rexel held out to take the second set 25 – 17 and set up a decider.
The third set got off to an impressive start for Hot Geckos, with a run of expert serves by Keira Tulloch that gave them control.
Rexel were forced to call a time out at 8-0 to break Hot Geckos’ momentum.
Rexel finally broke the Hot Geckos streak to get their first points of the set at 12-2.
However this just delayed the inevitable as Geckos won 25-6 to win the game 2-1. Most valuable players were Keira Tulloch and Wayne Leask for Hot Geckos, while Ellie Duncan and Tom Jamieson stood out for Rexel.
In the night’s other game Diggers came from a set down to win 2-1 in their opening fixture of the season.
Benchwarmers’ had started quickly with a six-point serving streak from Jarryd Jamieson, and a thunderous hit from Lukasz Prawdzik putting them 12-5 in front.
Diggers built momentum through extended rallies, but a wayward spike ensured Benchwarmers won the first set 25-17.
They carried their form into the second set, with Paula Williamson delivering a huge block on Clark that electrified the team.
Soon the scores were level at 11-11 and the set became a tense battle of quality play and unforced errors.
At 24–24 the pressure was immense, but Josh Sutherland sealed the set with a decisive ace, giving Diggers a dramatic 26–24 win.
Diggers rode the momentum into the final set, moving ahead to 8–6, and a series of strong serves soon widened the gap to 16–10.
Despite a spirited fightback from Benchwarmers, Diggers’ Josh Sutherland and Thomas Clarke were relentless in attack, building a commanding 21–12 lead.
A final Benchwarmers error at the line gave Diggers a deserved 25-17 win to claim the match 2-1.
Most valuable players were Paula Williamson and Jarryd Jamieson for Benchwarmers, while Estera Pawlak and Thomas Clarke stood out for Diggers.
