Community / Firefighters donate funds to rugby club in Erin’s honour
FIREFIGHTERS in Lerwick have donated £2,500 in honour of Erin Quinn, who was a member of the Lerwick station.
Crew from the Lerwick fire and rescue station handed £2,500 to the junior girls’ section of the Shetland Rugby Club after its successful open day last month.
The money will support the girls to participate in national events across Scotland to develop their skills and confidence, and to purchase essential equipment and kit.
The donation was made in memory of Quinn, who was a firefighter at Lerwick station and actively involved in Shetland women’s rugby, who died in January 2025.
A further £1,500 was donated to the National Fire Fighter’s Charity.
All of the crew at Lerwick station thanked everyone for joining them at their open day and for “making it such a fantastic day”.
Watch commander Colin Nicolson said: “This is a really important event for us that we hold every second year, to provide opportunities for the station to engage with young people and the community, and also to raise funds for important charities and causes”.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are currently recruiting across Shetland, and you can contact your local station for more information.
