POLICE say two boys have been traced in connection to recent vandalism at the Clickimin emergency helipad in Lerwick as well as a break-in at a nearby shed.

The damage to the helipad, which is used by the Sumburgh based coastguard helicopter, was revealed last week.

It put the helipad out of action for several days, meaning the helicopter would have been unable to land there.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said that there had luckily been no impact on any search and rescue operations while its use was suspended.

But it also emerged that a shed near the Clickimin Broch was also broken into around the same time, with windows smashed.

The owner, who did not wish to be named, said they were “devastated” by the incident.

They got in touch with Shetland News after reporting it to the police.

The owner of the outbuilding had been away on holiday when the vandalism took place.

They said that “every single window has been smashed”, adding that it would have “taken a lot of effort” given that some were already boarded up.

The owner added that someone then “ransacked” through toolboxes.
