News / Clickimin helipad had to be closed after vandalism
AN EMERGENCY helipad in Lerwick was vandalised over the weekend, leaving emergency services without the use of the site.
The landing lights at the Clickimin landing site were believed to have been damaged between Friday and Sunday, with use of the helipad suspended.
It reopened on Tuesday 29 July.
The site is used by the coastguard rescue helicopter to fly casualties to Lerwick, before they are transferred to the Gilbert Bain Hospital via ambulance.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said that there had luckily been no impact on any search and rescue operations during the suspension.
Police are appealing for information following the vandalism to the landing lights.
“If you have any information that could assist enquiries, including anyone with CCTV or Ring doorbell footage that may capture this area, please contact police via 101 quoting incident number 1036 of 29 July, 2025,” police said.
