BRAE HIGH School has unveiled its new school logo as designed and shaped by pupils, parents and staff.
The collaborative design process came after pupils selected school improvement ideas, with the themes then explored with guidance of graphic designer Keirynn Topp at Maskot.
A decision was taken to focus on promoting the new school vision of “Brae High School: Discover Your True North”, with seven pupils given the chance to visit Maskot’s studio and work on finalising the design.
The final logo features a sailing boat, which represents the North Mainland’s strong maritime heritage and the concept of children and young people being on a journey of discovery and learning.
Brae High School headteacher Logan Nicolson said: “Special thanks must go to Keirynn Topp at Maskot for all his time and support on this project.
“We are also grateful to the many pupils, parents and carers, staff, stakeholders, and partners who contributed their thoughts and ideas throughout this process.
“Their input has ensured that the final design truly represents the values, pride and spirit of Brae High School and its community.”
CONCERNS have been raised about EDF customers being forced onto more expensive energy tariffs before they are switched over to smart meters.
Orkney and Shetland MP Alistair Carmichael has written to EDF Energy chief executive Simone Rossi after being contacted by constituents who had been placed on costlier energy tariffs.
It comes as the switch over radio teleswitch (RTS) to smart meters continues in a phased roll-out from yesterday (Monday).
With thousands of Shetlanders still waiting to get their meters switched over, Carmichael has raised concerns that energy companies will try to charge more for their energy in the meantime.

“For EDF to force their RTS customers onto inferior energy tariffs is utterly unacceptable,” he said.
“It begins to appear as though EDF have pocketed the extension to the RTS deadline while using it as an excuse to bilk the very families they have failed.
“It is all the more galling that these letters talk about the opportunities of having access to smart meter tariffs when EDF – like the other energy companies – have left thousands of families unable to secure a smart meter due to their own fecklessness.
“Ofgem has stated that energy companies should give equivalent tariffs to RTS customers so that no one is left worse off as a result of switching.
“At best what EDF is doing goes against the spirit of that commitment – at worst it looks like an active attempt to evade the new rules. Ofgem and the government must come down hard on this sly behaviour.”
In his letter, Carmichael said he had spoken to multiple people who had been forced onto a more expensive “standard variable” tariff by EDF.
The MP has called on Rossi to give an urgent response to the concerns raised.
OFFICERS from the Highlands and Islands road policing unit were in Shetland recently for the annual Simmer Dim bike rally.
They carried out a number of engagement sessions and also delivered a new project, Rider Refinement North, which has been developed to help motorcyclists who want to be safer on the road.
Police Scotland said the course involves demonstration and observes rides with feedback from the officers, encouraging riders to think about their riding styles, position on the road and behaviour.
Road policing constable Gary Dunnett said: “We have some of the best roads and routes in Scotland for riding motorcycles on, and scenery to enjoy so it’s important that people do just that in both a safe, and responsible manner.
“It was pleasing to see that those attending the Simmer Dim rally were”.
