Transport / Bus timetable changes during Dales Lees road closure
SHETLAND Islands Council has confirmed there will be changes to some public bus services while a closure is in place on the Dales Lees road to allow for cabling laying work.
A section of the A968 will be closed from 8 July to 24 October, with all traffic to be diverted through Brae.
The Dales Lees road is well used by traffic heading to the Toft ferry terminal.
In response to the closure, Shetland Islands Council has adjusted the timing of Service 23 (Lerwick to Toft) and Service 24V (integrated service to the North Isles) to help maintain ferry and bus connections for residents of Yell, Unst and Fetlar.
From Tuesday 8 July:
- The 1710 Service 23 departure from the Viking Bus Station will move to 1700, Monday to Saturday
- The 1420 Service 24V departure from Tesco will move to 1410, Monday to Friday
- The 1355 Service 24V departure from Tesco will move to 1345 on Saturdays
The council and ZetTrans said they recognise that slightly earlier departures may cause inconvenience to some passengers.
A spokesperson said “These timetable alterations represent the least disruptive option overall, as holding ferries or changing multiple connecting services would have significant impacts across the wider inter-island network.”
The roadworks and associated road closure form part of SSEN’s North Mainland Reinforcement Project.
