Community / Two jarl squads to descend on Edinburgh for tartan parade

Some of the members from year's Nesting and Girlsta jarl squad will be among those taking part in the tartan parade. This photo is from NorthLink Ferries, which is providing sponsorship.

A VIKING invasion will descend on Edinburgh this weekend as two jarl squads head to the Scottish capital to take part in a parade down the Royal Mile.

Members of this year’s Nesting and Girlsta jarl squad, as well as the 2023 Delting squad, will feature in the first Edinburgh Tartan Parade tomorrow (Saturday).

The parade will kick off at 1pm and will begin at the Royal Mile before heading down Cockburn Street, continuing to Waverley Bridge and finishing at the Mound Precinct.

Organisers said the parade will bring together “tartans, pipe bands, dancers, musicians, organisations, and individuals from Edinburgh, as well as across Scotland, and beyond – to celebrate the country’s rich heritage, tartans, culture and inclusivity”.

The inspiration comes from the Tartan Day parade held each year in New York, which some jarl squads have attended in the past – including Dwayne Davies’ Delting squad in 2023.

Around 1,600 people are expected to take part in Saturday’s parade, including Gail Porter and Kyle Dawson, president of New York Tartan Week.
