LOGANAIR has denied reports that flights between Edinburgh and Sumburgh will be disrupted over the winter period.

Tanker drivers at Edinburgh Airport are set to walk out in a row over pay from 18 December until the morning of 6 January.

It comes in a dispute with North Air, who provide refuelling services for domestic and international airlines flying in and out of the Scottish capital.

Union Unite said that Loganair’s domestic routes to the islands “could be directly impacted” by the walk-out.

That had led to concerns about people flying to and from Shetland for Christmas being affected.

But Loganair’s new chief operating officer Natalie Bush said they were planning for business as usual.

“Loganair plan to operate a full and uninterrupted service throughout the festive period,” she said.

THE SHETLAND Museum and Archives is asking the public for their views on how its displays could be redeveloped ahead of its 20th anniversary in 2027.

Through the survey, called Shetland’s Story is your Story, the museum seeks to ensure that the voices of the community are central to reimagining how the rich history and vibrant culture of Shetland are presented.

Project curator Tracey Hawkins said: “It is important for us to receive public input as we begin the first phase in planning the redevelopment of the upper and lower galleries.

“We’re keen to hear from everyone in the community and understand what they would like to see in the spaces and ensure that their voices are reflected in the future telling of Shetland’s story.”

She added that it is an “exciting opportunity” to replace some of the existing artefacts which require to be taken off long-term exhibit, and to bring forward little-seen artefacts from storage onto permanent display.

A GROUP of campaigners is calling on Scotland’s first minister to undertake a “fundamental review” of Scottish Government support for the space sector following the announcement that work on the Sutherland Spaceport project is to pause.

It comes after rocket firm Orbex said it was shifting its focus to the SaxaVord Spaceport in Unst, halting the Sutherland project.

Space Watch UK has written to John Swinney pointing out that current Scottish Government policy on spaceports is “flawed”.

The Sutherland project had received millions of pounds of funding from government agency Highlands and Islands Enterprise, but it only got the stage where some initial construction work had taken place.

Peter Burt of Spacewatch UK said: “There are deep contradictions in Scottish Government policies on the development of spaceports which have been exposed by the decision to pause work on the Sutherland Spaceport project.

“The space sector is a high risk industry, requiring high up front costs from investors in the sector.

“There is already a global overcapacity in space launch sites when compared to demand, meaning that the economic viability of new developments will always be a challenge, and even voices from the space industry have questioned the need for multiple spaceports in Scotland.

“Under these circumstances a more measured approach is needed from the Scottish Government, development agencies, and local authorities.”

A YOUTUBER specialising in golf has named the Whalsay course as the “best in the world”.

The UK’s most northerly golf course has featured in a new video from Golf Mates channel, which has 225,000 subscribers and run by Liam Harrison.

Asked why he enjoyed the Whalsay course so much, Harrison said: “I liked the journey to Whalsay be honest, and the people there were just brilliant.

“If you get it on the right day, you’re not going to find anywhere better than Whalsay for views. What they have done with it is cracking.”

Promote Shetland supported Harrison’s trip north, with head of content marketing Adam Civico adding: “For him to call Whalsay Golf Club the ‘world’s best course’ is exceptional and a huge credit to the committee, greenkeeper and members.

“If some of Liam’s viewers are inspired to make the trip to the island that will be an excellent result.” Another video of Harrison experiencing the Dale golf course outside of Lerwick is due to be released in the near future.
