Volunteers wanted for final Bressay tree planting session

VOLUNTEERS will plant the final 1,000 trees for a community woodland project in Bressay this weekend.

The project sees the re-creation of a Shetland native woodland and provides a diverse habitat for local plants, bees, bugs and birds.

The woodland will also offer a year round attraction to visitors.

In total there will be 3,000 trees planted, with the final 1,000 going in on Saturday.

Saturday’s planting sessions will take place from 10.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm, with organisers Bressay Development Ltd keen for as many volunteers as possible to help out.

Spare tools will be available on site, but folk are welcome to bring their own spade.

The Speldiburn cafe will be open for lunch and refreshments.

The project will only include species listed in prof. David Spence’s book Shetland’s Living Landscape, A Study Of Island Plant Ecology.
