Community / Christmas Eve parade delights bairns in Tingwall

CHILDREN in Tingwall got a special visit from Santa on Christmas Eve – complete with an army of elves and a sleigh too.

The community was also gifted a number of selection boxes to hand out to those watching.

Claire Bisset said the roots of the parade stems back to 2020 during the Covid pandemic, when one was arranged to give children a “pick me up” as they were not able to visit Santa as normal.

“It was so enjoyed that we have been asked to do it every year,” she said.

The parade covers areas likes Gaet-a-Gott and Stura.

This year some leftover selection boxes were donated to a charity, while some were also passed onto the hospital in Lerwick.

“We even had enough selection boxes that Santa took some leftovers to the Gilbert Bain on Christmas Day in full uniform,” Bisset said.
