Community / Dental practice closing after dentist’s death

THE DENTAL Shetland practice is closing permanently following the sudden death of Dr David Lubbe on New Year’s Day, his family has announced.

Meanwhile, a memorial service to celebrate Dr Lubbe’s life will be held at the Lerwick Baptist Church on Saturday 28 January at 1pm (GMT+2).

Dr Lubbe died suddenly at his home in Vidlin on 1 January after having been out feeding his sheep. He was 73 years old.

Originally from Namibia, he was a dentist in Shetland for almost 15 years.

His widow Cheryl Lubbe said the dental practice on North Road was now closed as she had been unable to acquire a locum or replacement dentist.

All registered patients are advised to contact Montfield Dental Clinic, the Family Dental Clinic or Lerwick Dental Practice if they need a dentist.

She added that the family greatly appreciated the messages of goodwill they had received since her husband’s sudden death, and asked people to donate to the Fishermen’s Mission rather than bring memorial flowers.

A livestream from the memorial service will be available from 12.50 GMT at the LBC Online section of the Baptist Church website at https://lerwickbaptist.org.uk
