News / Unusual military aircraft spotted at Sumburgh

Photo: Ronnie Robertson

PLANE watchers at Sumburgh airport were treated to an unusual spectacle on Sunday when a tiltrotor military aircraft made a short appearance.

The Bell Boing V-22 Osprey looks like a cross of a helicopter and a plane, and is known as a tiltrotor military aircraft.

Belonging to the US Air Force, the aircraft can function as a conventional helicopter or as a high speed turboprop aircraft.

She did not land at Sumburgh.
