A FAMILY run business is celebrating after its Shetland sea salt was nominated for a national award.

The salt is up for the condiments prize at this year’s Great British Food Awards, with the winners revealed on 28 October.

Shetland Salt is run by Davie and Kaye Sandison from Scalloway with daughter Laura Hughes.

The product is available in shops across the isles, and the team have previously won Great Taste awards.

They said in a statement: “Kaye, Laura and Davie are really excited that our handmade sea salt has been shortlisted for this national award.

“As a small family business, producing an artisan product, we are over the moon to get this far in rigorous taste testing from thousands of entries.”

The salt is derived from water taken from Shetland waters.

Meanwhile the awards’ judging panel consists of celebrity chefs, Michelin-starred restaurateurs, food critics, influencers and buyers.

The Great British Food Awards were launched in 2014 to celebrate the country’s finest home-grown ingredients, as well as the people who produce and cook with them.
