News / Victory for footballers in Orkney
SHETLAND reigned supreme in the first under-15 inter-county girls football match in Kirkwall at the weekend.
The team lifted the inaugural Pilkington-Tait trophy on Sunday after a 3-2 over Strom-West.
Goals for Shetland came from Tegan Hendren, captain Karis Leask and Lisa Goudie, with Gemma Montgomery and Tallis Scott hitting the net for their rivals.
Shetland manager Mark Hunter said that while both teams were evenly matched, the ten saves made by host goalie Grace McIlroy highlighted the blues’ attacking intent.
The weekend, which was hosted by Orkney Youth Development Group, kicked off with a round-robin seven-a-side tournament on Saturday, with Shetland White and Shetland Blue both performing well despite the blustery conditions.
