News / Whalsay playpark vandalised
THE COMMITTEE behind the Charlestown playpark in Whalsay says it is dealing with reports of vandalism of some of its equipment.
The team behind the Symbister playpark said on its Facebook page that comments were etched onto equipment, including the windows of a boat primarily used by pre-school age children which will have to be “replaced at a considerable cost”.
The playpark was refurbished in 2015 after the committee received £10,000 from the lottery to buy new equipment, while it also secured money from Tesco Community Awards, local businesses and the public.
“We are very grateful to all the support of our fundraising efforts to obtain this equipment and would be very disappointed if it has to be removed due to such a thoughtless act,” the playpark wrote.
