News / Seamus smashes record
SHETLAND’s rising athletes star Seumas MacKay has set a new island record for the 400m distance when he won a gold medal at the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships on Thursday.
Taking more than a second off the record he completed the distance at the Emirates Arena, in Glasgow, in a time of 48.87s. The previous Shetland record was 50.14s.
The Scottish indoor record over the distance for under-20 men was set back in 1995 by Hugh Kerr in a time of 47.69s
Seumas won a gold metal over the 800m distance at last year’s Island Games, in Gotland.
