News / Burrastow best in Scotland
THE HISTORIC Burrastow House has been named Scotland’s best hotel.
The Walls establishment picked up the accolade in The Good Hotel Guide‘s 2018 publication.
Owner Pierre Dupont, who has run the hotel/guesthouse since 2004, said he was “very pleased” with the news.
He added that Burrastow – which has six rooms and is now closed for the winter – had a “good summer” this year.
The building was built in 1759 for the Henry family and in the early 20th century it was bought by Yorkshire mill owner Col Foster, who developed it into a summerhouse.
Since 1980 it has been run as a guest house, with Bo Simmons expanding Burrastow alongside husband Henry Anderton with three new en-suite rooms in the 1990s.
The Good Hotel Guide says it is the “independent guide to hotels in Great Britain and Ireland”, with an annual guide published every autumn.
