Letters / Huge thanks
Huge thanks to every single person, who helped us with our Keep a Child Warm initiative this year.
Julia Odie has been inundated with support from so many of you helping to collect, sort and pack the items ready for Operation Orphan‘s distribution later on this year.
The items gathered will be going to Moldova and Ukraine as well as a shipment to help the victims of the Nepal earthquakes.
Special thanks to Aggie Ratter, Rebecca Colyer, Sandwick; Kathryn Cape, Cunningsburgh; Anne Sinclair, Fair Isle; Lisa Johnson, Lerwick; Rhona McArthur, Aith; Robbie Dailly, Firth; Jane Moncreiff, Scalloway; Hille Buckley-Jones, South Whiteness; Alma Lewis, Burravoe; and Gillian Laurenson, Scalloway, for helping with the collection.
Thanks to Marianne Raikes, Janette Ruddick, Kathy Manson, Rosemary Jamieson, Rose Reid, Karen Hall, Janette Ruddick, Kathy Manson, Marie Duncan, Breada Johnson (Marie’s granny), Amelie Duncan (age 4, Marie’s daughter) for helping with the pack and sewing blankets together!
What a team effort (and that’s without mentioning all the schools, groups and businesses who were involved in this terrific venture).
Look out for Julia’s trip to Moldova on our website (in November) and updates on the other amazing things Operation Orphan is doing to help create a brighter future for orphans and vulnerable children in our world.
So grateful to you for all your help,
Cyrilyn Moore

Shetland News is asking its many readers to consider start paying for their dose of the latest local news delivered straight to their PC, tablet or mobile phone.
Journalism comes at a price and because that price is not being paid in today’s rapidly changing media world, most publishers - national and local - struggle financially despite very healthy audience figures.
Most online publishers have started charging for access to their websites, others have chosen a different route. Shetland News currently has over 600 supporters who are all making small voluntary financial contributions. All funds go towards covering our cost and improving the service further.
Your contribution will ensure Shetland News can: -
- Bring you the headlines as they happen;
