News / Swan brings down power line
A SWAN that collided with power lines near Vidlin left around 600 households in Shetland’s north mainland without electricity for almost an hour on Sunday morning.
A spokesman for Scottish & Southern Energy said the circuits at the Voe sub-station tripped when the bird brought down the lines at 8.15am.
Engineers were able to restore supply to most customers by just before 9am, but some had to wait for another two hours until the lines could be repaired.
The spokesman apologised for the inconvenience and confirmed that engineers had found a dead swan lying near the lines.
