Letters / Gala thanks

On behalf of the Scalloway Gala management committee, I would like to extend a huge thank you to everybody who came out to support the gala last weekend. To name everybody individually could fill a page and still risk leaving somebody out, but we are incredibly grateful to all the people who attended, whatever their contribution.

We must say a special thank you to Malakoff and Scalloway Hotel, both of whom made significant donations towards our running costs.

Our fundraising day proved a big success and the turnout for all aspects of it exceeded our expectations. We will continue our fundraising efforts throughout the year and aim to bring back a full gala programme next summer.

We as a committee are fully aware that the Scalloway Gala is not the event it once was. Nobody would like to see a successful gala more than us and we will do everything we can to return it as a focal point of the village’s year. However, we are a small committee and can only do so much. To truly reinvigorate the gala we need fresh ideas and driven volunteers. I hope that anybody who is able to help us – whether that be joining the committee or simply putting forward an idea for fundraising – will get in touch.

Find us on Facebook or speak to a member of the committee. We are all passionate about the gala and want to see it do well, so we will be delighted to hear from you!

Toby Sandison

(Scalloway Gala chairman)
