Letters / No great accolade
Congratulations to Alex Salmond for winning the Scottish Herald’s “Scottish Politician” of the year award, not the “Politician” of the year award as Douglas Young claims (Congratulations; SN 16/11/13).
Not that it is much of an accolade with only 47,000 of a readership, but never the less well done Mr Salmond, I bet the competition are gutted.
Sincere congratulations to the three councillors who won the Local Politician of the Year award, Councillors Gary Robinson, Angus Campbell and Steven Heddle for their campaign for more powers to be devolved to the islands.
The three councillors deserve their awards for their work towards more autonomy for the isles, Douglas is wrong to associate Salmond with this good work.
As Alex Salmond led an SNP charm offensive aimed at softening the Northern Isles’ opposition to independence by promising only to “consider” our demands for more powers.
