Letters / Stoic Shetlanders
The report by James Gray, although welcome, will have come as no surprise to anyone who has lived on Shetland over the last 14 years.
Ever since a cabal made the decision to remove Nick Reiter from office, things have gone from “worse to worser”!
What is absolutely astonishing, however, is that the news that a mere handful of people have managed to ‘disappear’ nearly a quarter of a billion pounds of public funds, is met with total equanimity by the Shetland folk.
News like this would rock the financial capitals of the world, governments would fall, stock markets would collapse; but stoic Shetlanders merely shrug their weary shoulders and continue to focus on the real issues of the day, such as the sniping between union officials and councillors, God bless them!
