Harvey exhibition
A NEW exhibition at Da Gadderie in Shetland Museum and Archives is to open this weekend.
Local abstract artist Gail Harvey’s show entitled Recent Paintings features work inspired by the landscape around her home.
Harvey was born and raised in Glasgow, studying at the Glasgow School of Art in the 1970s before moving to Coubal, Shetland in 1988.
Speaking of her work, she said: “I’d like my paintings to have enough presence and stillness of image to hold the viewer as Coubal holds me, but for the play of paint to encourage movement of thought across, through and beyond the painting surface.”
Exhibitions officer John Hunter said: “The expressive energy and boldness of technique balanced with subtlety of touch and colour will have a powerful impact on visitors to the show. Titles like Gentle Evening, Moon, Sea Birds and Storm act like keys to her work and after the immediate visual impact allow the viewer time to share something of Gail’s vision.”
The exhibition opens Saturday 11 August and finishes on Sunday 23 September.
