Power off in the north

MORE than 600 households in Lunnasting and Whalsay lost their electricity for a period on Monday afternoon as the result of a fire in a pole mounted transformer near Laxo.

The power went off at 3.25pm but was restored within 20 minutes to the vast majority of customers affected.

A spokesman for Scottish & Southern Energy said that the remaining seven customers would have to wait until 7.30pm for their electricity to come back.

He apologised for the inconvenience caused.
