News / Smith disqualified

A LERWICK man who drove his car for a short distance while twice the legal limit for alcohol was disqualified for four years at the town’s sheriff court on Thursday.

Matthew Smith, of 13 Grodians, was also placed on a supervision order for the next 17 months and told to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

Smith admitted driving the car on Lerwick’s Harbour Street on 2 February. He also pled guilty to failing to provide a breath sample.

Smith can reduce the period of disqualification by a year by successfully completing a drink drivers’ rehabilitation course He was admonished for driving without insurance and failing to co-operate with police
